TheatreWorks of Northern Nevada’s aim is to promote the performing arts to a varied and sometimes neglected audience in the northern part of our state.

The metropolitan areas of northern Nevada have undergone a tremendous economic and cultural growth within the last several years.  This growth has brought with it a diverse change in the cultural climate of the area, which will hopefully make way for an expansion in the arts for our community.

Northern Nevada’s rural communities do not always have access to the cultural opportunities afforded those in the larger cities.  One of our missions is to bring the performing arts to these communities as well.

Theatreworks goals are to reach individuals of all ages and backgrounds, to offer learning and performing opportunities in various styles and to create a diverse environment to nurture learning. Theatreworks offers scholarships to disadvantaged students who would typically not be able to participate due to economic situations.

Recent programming included William Mastrosimone’s Bang bang, you’re dead which was endorsed by the Washoe County School District and was performed at Jan Evans juvenile detention facility, Job Corp and will continue at several community youth organizations.  We sponsor a youth company, which teaches theatre education classes and experience in performance opportunities as well.

Welcome to the Moon and other plays by John Patrick Shanley was performed at Monaco Ridge extended living center at Washoe Medical Center, and Hyatt Classic Residence retirement community.  The play served as an outreach to Senior Citizen centers and a workshop was held at UNR’s Elder College to promote Acting education to our Senior population.

 Through training of students, outreach programs to schools, nursing homes, hospitals and community organizations in addition to offering performance opportunities, TheatreWorks hopes to achieve its goals of educating and reaching a varied and rapidly changing audience.
