TWNN Playwriting Contest

ELIGIBILITY

  1. All entries must be original work. No adaptations will be accepted. Scripts cannot have been produced or published in any capacity or medium prior to the close of the entry window. If a winning entry is published between the time of entry and the time of selection as a winner, the prize may be denied (and a different winner selected) unless legal waivers are provided to permit TWNN's production of the work. In a theatrical adaptation, material from another artistic medium, such as a novel or a film, or from another play, is re-written according to the needs and requirements of the theatre and turned into a play or musical.
  2. Scripts must be written with a target audience from 8 - 18 years old and with a cast which could be comprised primarily from that same age group.
  3. This competition is NOT open to musical productions.
  4. There will be two categories of entry:
    1. Youth entries from authors who have not reached the age of 18 years at the close of the entry window     .
    2. Adult entries from authors who are 18 years old or older at the close of the entry window.
  5. This competition is open to those authors whose primary residence is in Nevada or California at the time of submittal.
  6. Collaborative entries (multiple authors) are permitted.
  7. Members of the TWNN Board of Directors, playwriting competition judges, and paid employees of TWNN are not eligible to enter.
  8. Running time for entries should be in the 75 to 135 minutes range.
  9. Winning plays from previous TWNN Playwriting Competitions are NOT eligible, however resubmission of a non-winning play is allowed, provided it meets all other eligibility requirements.         

JUDGING, ANNOUNCEMENT, AND PRIZES

  1. An independent panel of jurors will perform the adjudication and their decision is final. All entries are judged anonymously. Each entry will receive a numerical score from the initial round of judging and those entries surpassing the required threshold will be subject to a second round.
  2. TWNN reserves the right to not award a winner in either or both these categories.
  3. Winners, if any, will be announced at the TWNN Annual Fundraiser, via the TWNN website, press release,  and social media. Winners will be notified by email after the formal announcement. 
  4. Winners agree to permit the use of their name(s) and title of their play in any promotion by TWNN. Furthermore, winners agree to allow TWNN to mount a production of their winning script.        
  5. Each winner will receive $500 and the availability of up to three workshops/readings of the play.  
  6. The winning entries may, if the TWNN Board chooses, receive an additional $500 and a TWNN production the winning script.
  7. In the case of a collaborative entry, it is the responsibility of the submitting author to disperse winnings, if any, among their collaborators.

Submitting Your Entry

SUBMISSION

  1. All entries must be submitted online at the TWNN website no earlier than 12:01 AM PST, January 1st, 2018 and no later than 12:00 AM PST, July 1st, 2018. No hard copy entries will be accepted.
  2. A signed copy of the completed entry form with parent/guardian signature (if entrant is under age 18) must also be mailed to TWNN postmarked prior to the close of the entry window.
  3. Multiple entries must be submitted separately with a corresponding completed and parental/guardian signed entry form (if required).
  4. In the case of collaborative entries, the submitting author must provide information about their collaborators when requested. If such information is not provided within two weeks of the request, the entry will be deemed ineligible.
  5. The play title and page number must appear on each page of the script.
  6. ONLY the title of the play must appear on the cover page.
  7. Any appearance of the playwright’s name, initials or other identifiable mark(s) on any part of the script (including  the cover page) will disqualify the entry.
  8. All manuscripts must be in English.
  9. All submissions must be in a .doc or .pdf format.
