All entries must be original work. No adaptations will be accepted. Scripts cannot have been produced or published in any capacity or medium prior to the close of the entry window. If a winning entry is published between the time of entry and the time of selection as a winner, the prize may be denied (and a different winner selected) unless legal waivers are provided to permit TWNN's production of the work. In a theatrical adaptation, material from another artistic medium, such as a novel or a film, or from another play, is re-written according to the needs and requirements of the theatre and turned into a play or musical.
Scripts must be written with a target audience from 8 - 18 years old and with a cast which could be comprised primarily from that same age group.
This competition is NOT open to musical productions.
There will be two categories of entry:
Youth entries from authors who have not reached the age of 18 years at the close of the entry window .
Adult entries from authors who are 18 years old or older at the close of the entry window.
This competition is open to those authors whose primary residence is in Nevada or California at the time of submittal.
Collaborative entries (multiple authors) are permitted.
Members of the TWNN Board of Directors, playwriting competition judges, and paid employees of TWNN are not eligible to enter.
Running time for entries should be in the 75 to 135 minutes range.
Winning plays from previous TWNN Playwriting Competitions are NOT eligible, however resubmission of a non-winning play is allowed, provided it meets all other eligibility requirements.
JUDGING, ANNOUNCEMENT, AND PRIZES
An independent panel of jurors will perform the adjudication and their decision is final. All entries are judged anonymously. Each entry will receive a numerical score from the initial round of judging and those entries surpassing the required threshold will be subject to a second round.
TWNN reserves the right to not award a winner in either or both these categories.
Winners, if any, will be announced at the TWNN Annual Fundraiser, via the TWNN website, press release, and social media. Winners will be notified by email after the formal announcement.
Winners agree to permit the use of their name(s) and title of their play in any promotion by TWNN. Furthermore, winners agree to allow TWNN to mount a production of their winning script.
Each winner will receive $500 and the availability of up to three workshops/readings of the play.
The winning entries may, if the TWNN Board chooses, receive an additional $500 and a TWNN production the winning script.
