The Volunteers of America Family Shelter is such a special part of our Outreach Programming. This program is led by our Program Coordinator: Nasya Mancini with the help of Laryssa Kolstrup.
Nasya and Laryssa work with the children weekly to create skills in acting, confidence and more with the children who reside in the VOA Shelter with their families.
Join us each Fall for our Annual "Kids Take Center Stage" Performance. This FREE Community Performance gives these children the opportunity to showcase all they have learned under professional lighting, with professional sound and on a real stage in full hair, makeup and costumes!
This program is FREE for all residents of the VOA Family Shelter.
This program run by Program Coordinator Elisha Harris goes to the children and teens residing at the Kids Kottage Facility. These children are able to learn skills in acting and more to help them learn responsibility, and confidence.
These classes, working in Partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of the Truckee Meadows bring Class Instructor Elisha Harris to a different after school club program site every quarter. Children work weekly to put together a full production including show, costumes and set design.
At the end of each Session there is a show performed for the student's parents to showcase all of their hard work!
Each quarter a different one of our Company Classes visit the children in the Renown Chidren's Hospital in an effort to bring a break from illness and some brightness to their families. These visits include small skits held in patient rooms, and in other areas of the Children's Ward.
Annually our Artown Production also travels to Renown for a one night only, private and exclusive performance for the children in the hospital, their families, nurses, doctors and their families as well in Renown's Mack Auditorium. This special day also includes our lead characters making special visits to the children who are unable to leave the room, delivering to them a special hand signed book from our cast.
We also are so grateful to be able to perform our annual performance of A Charlie Brown Christmas at the Children's Hospital Annual Christmas Party.
